D-Wade says it must ‘suck’ a little bit for LeBron to still be this good
📄 正文
Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade shared an interesting take on Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James as he navigates the next steps in his basketball career.
James is 41 years old and has played 23 seasons in the NBA, and he’s yet to officially announce whether or not he’ll return for the 2026-27 season.
Wade explained that it may be harder for the four-time champion to step away from the game of basketball because he’s still a really good player.
“It has to suck a little bit to get to this point in your career and still be really good,” Wade said. “… It’s hard to make that decision when you still really f—— good. Who walks away when they’re really, really good? Only a few. It ain’t a lot of Barry Sanders who just walk away when they really good.
“And you’re talking about a guy who’s been doing this his entire life. This is what he knows better than anyone since he’s been playing this game, right? He’s become this generation’s G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time), and so, how do you walk away from being a G.O.A.T. when you still a G.O.A.T.?”
James clearly is still one of the better players in the NBA, and he proved that by making an All-Star team and leading the Lakers to a playoff series win in the 2025-26 season.
During the regular season, James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3. Even though he took on a smaller role in the Lakers’ offense when Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were both healthy, James was still a winning player, helping the team secure the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.
After Doncic and Reaves both were injured toward the end of the regular season, James was forced to revert to a No. 1 role in the playoffs, especially in the first round against the Houston Rockets.
James led the Lakers to a 3-0 series lead in that matchup, and the Lakers eventually won the series in six games. Reaves returned in Game 5 of the Houston series, but James was the driving force for Los Angeles through its playoff run. Doncic never returned.
James finished the postseason averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game across 10 appearances.
It’s possible that James will want to return for at least one more season to chase another championship ring, and he also may want to see just how long he can play at an elite level. There are still teams interested in him, as it was reported that virtually “every contender” has checked in on James with an eye on his future.
Hopefully, the four-time MVP will keep playing next season, as it’s hard to imagine the NBA without him. James was picked No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft, and he’s been a staple in the league ever since.

NBA exec hits Lakers with bad news before FA even begins
📄 正文
The Los Angeles Lakers have a major offseason ahead of them, as they are positioned to build around Luka Doncic, even though several of their key players are set to become free agents.
Austin Reaves (player option), Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, Jaxson Hayes, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart (player option) and Deandre Ayton (player option) could all be unrestricted free agents this offseason, which could have a major impact for Los Angeles.
On one hand, the Lakers have the ability to open up some cap space to improve their roster. However, they also are at risk of losing some of their most important rotation players, something Los Angeles can’t exactly afford after coming up short in the second round of the playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
While the Lakers should have cap space to chase some additions, one Western Conference executive believes that the team will be “shut out” on restricted free agents, according to Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney.
Players like Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz), Jalen Duren (Detroit Pistons) and Peyton Watson (Denver Nuggets) are all set to be restricted free agents in the offseason and could potentially help the Lakers. But with restricted free agency, the Jazz, Pistons and Nuggets will have chances to match any offer sheets that their players sign, as long as they extend them qualifying offers.
“Walker Kessler of the Jazz is a player the Lakers were poised to make an offer on, one that would force Utah to match, something in the $30 million range,” Deveney wrote. “But there are indications the Jazz won’t be outbid for Kessler (within reason) and that the Lakers would not go that high on him, anyway.
“The same could be said for Jalen Duren in Detroit. It’s true that Duren has had a miserable postseason, and that his status as a max player is in peril. But around the league, the consensus is that the Pistons intend to match offers for him. Even if they don’t go to the max with him themselves, the Pistons still plan to negotiate with Duren directly.
“The Nuggets‘ Peyton Watson is another restricted free agency target for L.A., and probably the most realistic of the three. As good as Watson was in his breakout fourth season–14.6 points, 41.1% 3-point shooting–the Lakers are wary of committing $22-$25 million per year for Watson based on one injury-shortened year.
“The chance goes up if James retires, but the Lakers’ focus is still expected to be at center.”
Los Angeles certainly has a long offseason ahead, but bringing in more quality pieces around Doncic should be priority No. 1 for the franchise as it looks towards the future. James may also decide to return to L.A., but since he is 41 years old, the Lakers would be smart to prioritize Doncic as their main building block going forward.

Report: Virtually ‘every contender’ in NBA has called about LeBron
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason if he decides to continue his NBA career.
The 41-year-old has not announced if he’s coming back for a 24th NBA season, but ESPN’s Shams Charania provided some insight into James’ future, revealing that virtually “every contender” has reached out about the veteran.
"I do know a lot of teams are calling LeBron James and his camp..
The expectation is that he's going to play another season and we will see if it's going to be with the Lakers" ~ @ShamsCharania #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/BSkPNAGOa8
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) May 18, 2026
“I do know a lot of teams are calling him and his camp,” Charania said of James. “I spoke to Rich Paul the other day at the Chicago Draft Combine last week, and he told me like every contender in the NBA has essentially, since the season ended, placed a call. So, that line is gonna continue to be open. But listen, LeBron, all indications throughout the season have been that he’s gonna play another year. We’ll see if that remains to be true. He’s gotta take that time. We’ve never seen this.”
Charania continued.
“I think the expectation has been that probably you’re gonna get one more, and we’ll see if it’s gonna be with the Lakers or somewhere else,” he said. “But listen, being in L.A., having that comfortability, and the Lakers want him, I think all those factors do play a part.”
The Lakers have a lot of decisions to make in the offseason as they look to build a contender around Luka Doncic, but it’s hard to argue that there are many better options than James that will be available.
In the 2025-26 season, the four-time champion made yet another All-Star Game, and he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3.
With Doncic and Austin Reaves sidelined to begin the playoffs, James led the Lakers to a 3-0 series lead against the Houston Rockets and eventually took them to the second round before they were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reaves didn’t return until Game 5 against Houston (and Doncic never returned), yet James was able to do enough to keep the Lakers’ season alive.
During the playoff run for L.A. (10 games), James ended up averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. So, it makes sense that other teams that are contending for a title would want the superstar going into next season.
James has been to the NBA Finals 10 times in his career, winning titles with the Miami Heat (twice), Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers. He led L.A. to a title in the 2019-20 season during the COVID-19 pandemic and was named the Finals MVP.
If James does decide to return to the NBA, it appears the Lakers are interested in him returning to the team.

The first step for a reunion
Report: Jaxson Hayes wants to return to Lakers in free agency
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers big man Jaxson Hayes is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll be leaving Los Angeles.
“Hayes wants to return to the Lakers, but if he gets a significant offer—with more playing time—he would have to take it,” Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney wrote.
Hayes has been a staple in the Lakers’ rotation the last few years, appearing in 70 games in the 2023-24 season, 56 games (35 starts) in the 2024-25 season and 66 games in the 2025-26 season.
In the 2025-26 campaign, Hayes started just nine games, but he did play 18.3 minutes per game for Los Angeles. The center averaged 7.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 75.6 percent from the field.
Hayes is a solid lob threat and rim runner for the Lakers down low, and it would make sense for Los Angeles to bring him back at a reasonable number given the team’s lack of depth at center.
Deandre Ayton has a player option for the 2026-27 season with Los Angeles, but the former No. 1 overall pick didn’t exactly turn heads with his play this season, especially in the team’s playoff run.
Hayes appeared in all 10 of the Lakers’ postseason games in the 2025-26 season, averaging 16.3 minutes, 5.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
The Lakers have a big offseason ahead as they look to improve their roster around Luka Doncic. Austin Reaves (player option) can opt out of his current deal while LeBron James is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
So, Hayes is one of many players that Los Angeles has to make a decision on for the 2026-27 season and beyond.
A lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Hayes has mainly been a bench player in his career, starting just 96 of the 433 regular-season games that he’s appeared in. Still, he is a younger player (25 years old) that could be a long-term rotation piece for the Lakers if they decide to bring him back for a fourth season.
Since Hayes hasn’t exactly put up numbers that make him worthy of a starting spot on a playoff-caliber team, it’s hard to imagine a team going above and beyond to outbid the Lakers for the center’s services this offseason.

Report: Several NBA players believe Giannis will be traded to Lakers
📄 正文
The Los Angeles Lakers have an important offseason ahead of them, and they could be potential suitors for Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo if he’s traded.
The Athletic recently conducted an anonymous player poll and received 151 votes on where Antetokounmpo will start the 2026-27 season. Out of the 151 player votes, five respondents chose the Lakers.
The Lakers finished fourth in the poll, as the Bucks, Miami Heat and New York Knicks each received more votes when it came to the Antetokounmpo question. Regardless, it’s interesting that a handful of players around the league see the Lakers as the 31-year-old’s next destination.
For Los Angeles to land Antetokounmpo, it would likely have to part ways with many – if not all – of the assets it has left to pair him with star guard Luka Doncic. The Lakers may be looking to upgrade their roster after losing in the second round of the playoffs, but it’s worth noting that Doncic did not play in any of L.A.’s postseason games in 2026.
While Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the NBA when he is healthy, the Bucks star played in just 36 games during the 2025-26 season due to various injuries. He still put up some impressive numbers, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 62.4 percent from the field.
But if the Lakers are going to sacrifice a package that would bring Antetokounmpo to Los Angeles, they’ll certainly need him on the floor for more than just 36 games.
The Lakers finished with the No. 4 seed in the West in the 2025-26 season, and they’ll have a lot of competition for a high seed next season, especially with the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs (both in the Western Conference Finals this season) sporting impressive young cores.
Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam recently said that he would like to have clarity on Antetokounmpo’s future ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft. This summer, the draft will begin on June 23.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers make a push for Antetokounmpo or if they focus their priorities elsewhere in the offseason.

Report: LeBron taking veteran minimum isn’t in cards ‘at all’
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and there could be several teams bidding for his services.
In fact, it was recently reported that virtually “every contender” has reached out about the four-time champion with an eye on his future.
However, if James does return for a 24th NBA season, he is not expected to take a veteran minimum deal.
“Last Tuesday…I said that there were many people around the league who thought that LeBron should take a veteran minimum salary,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said. “It does not sound like that is actually in the cards at all. I wanna be very, very clear about that after some text messages and phone calls I received.”
It makes sense that James wouldn’t want to take a minimum deal since he was an All-Star in the 2025-26 season and is still one of the league’s most productive players. However, that could limit the number of teams that could truly pursue him in the offseason without the help of a sign-and-trade.
If James is looking to make a similar salary to what he made in the 2025-26 season and remain in contention, he will likely need to return to the Lakers – if they’re willing to take him at that number – or find a team that is willing to do a sign-and-trade with Los Angeles.
The 41-year-old averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3 during the 2025-26 regular season, showing that he can still produce at an All-Star level.
James helped the Lakers earn the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, and he carved out a nice role as the No. 3 option alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves when all three were healthy.
Then, with both of those guards injured to start the playoffs, James led the Lakers to a 3-0 series lead against the Houston Rockets. Los Angeles ended up taking that series in six games, but it was swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
Doncic did not play in the postseason, but Reaves returned for the final six games of L.A.’s playoff run. James finished the postseason averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest across 10 games.
The four-time league MVP is going to have a serious market in the offseason (if he decides to keep playing) because he’s still an elite talent, but it’ll be interesting to see how much teams are willing to pay for him in his 24th NBA season.

Magic Johnson implies Lakers may have no chance in West in coming years
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson shared an honest take on social media about the Western Conference following Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
“I hate to break the news to the rest of the Western Conference, but they may not have a chance to win the Western Conference Finals for the next 5-7 years,” Johnson wrote on X. “The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are just that good! They are talented, deep, athletic and both teams are well coached.”
The Thunder and Spurs played an extremely close Game 1 on Monday, with San Antonio winning in double overtime. It’s pretty clear that the two teams – who each won over 60 games in the regular season – are well ahead of the rest of the competition in the West, if not the entire NBA.
That’s bad news for the Lakers, as they likely will have to go through one – if not both – of these teams in the future to reach an NBA Finals. Even though the Lakers have a new cornerstone in Luka Doncic to lead their franchise for the foreseeable future, the Thunder and Spurs are loaded with young star talent.
OKC swept the Lakers in the second round of the playoffs this season (Doncic did miss the series with a hamstring injury), and it had not lost a playoff game in 2026 until Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
Meanwhile, the Spurs have rising stars like Victor Wembanyama (third season in the NBA), Stephon Castle (second season in the NBA) and Dylan Harper (a rookie). All three players were awesome in Game 1 on Monday, with Wembanyama (41 points and 24 rebounds) leading the way. That’s without even mentioning 28-year-old All-Star De’Aaron Fox, who missed Game 1.
The Spurs and Thunder are both set up to contend for titles for years to come, and Oklahoma City already won the 2025 NBA Finals with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams leading the way. All three of those players are locked into long-term deals with the Thunder.
The bar for the Lakers to clear in the West is extremely high, but they do have a chance to improve their roster this offseason. They are set to have several unrestricted free agents, including LeBron James, which could help them open up cap space to add to the team.
Plus, Los Angeles was the No. 4 seed in the West and won a playoff series in the 2025-26 campaign even though Doncic missed the entire playoff run.
Johnson may be worried about other teams in the West competing, but as long as Doncic is healthy, the Lakers have one of the best players in the league to go and challenge the Spurs and Thunder.

Report: J.J. Redick was surprised how ‘lean’ Lakers were behind scenes
📄 正文
As the Los Angeles Lakers adjust to their new ownership group led by businessman Mark Walter, the organization is undergoing some changes.
That could mean more resources are on the way to help the franchise get even with its peers. That would likely be a welcome change for an organization that has been described as thin behind the scenes — something Lakers head coach J.J. Redick reportedly noticed after he was hired.
“For years, the Lakers have operated with one of the NBA’s thinnest front offices,” wrote Yaron Weitzman of Yahoo Sports. “A small player performance and medical group. A tiny analytics team. No assistant GMs. Even JJ Redick, after being hired as head coach in June 2024, told a friend he was surprised by how lean the team was behind the scenes.”
After the Lakers were eliminated this season, team executive Rob Pelinka had some interesting comments about the franchise’s direction.
“It’s a full rebuild and retool,” Pelinka said of the organization’s collaboration with the Los Angeles Dodgers. “It’s adding to the great things that are already here, which have led to success, but elevating it and bringing it to the next level.”
Walter, who also owns the Dodgers, has helped that organization become a juggernaut, and if something similar is in the cards for the Lakers, that’s wonderful news for the Purple and Gold.
Although Redick might’ve been caught off guard by how thin the Lakers were after he was hired, the coach has done a nice job during his tenure.
In his debut season, the Lakers won 50 games and earned the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. They took a quick exit in the first round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves but still had some positives to feel good about from the season.
Then, this past season, the Lakers increased their win total to 53 and ended up with the No. 4 seed in the West. Despite major injury blows, the team took care of business in the first round of the playoffs against the Houston Rockets, but it was later swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
In addition to undergoing an ownership transition, L.A. is in the midst of a roster transition centered around its superstars. For years, star forward LeBron James has been the main building block for the franchise, but after the Lakers were able to acquire star guard Luka Doncic last season, he has become their new centerpiece.
The revolving doors have made it an interesting time to follow the organization as it attempts to steady the ship. The hope is that in the near future, the Lakers will be competing for championships again after they last won it all in the 2019-20 season.

Channing Frye’s direct message to LeBron James: ‘Go back to Cleveland’
📄 正文
The Cleveland Cavaliers are often mentioned as a possible landing spot for NBA icon LeBron James if he leaves the Los Angeles Lakers, and his former Cavs teammate Channing Frye wants to see it happen.
“Go back to Cleveland,” Frye said when asked where he’d like to see James next season. “Go back to Cleveland. That’s what I wanna see. Go back home, last year, let’s get it done. Cleveland can move on from James Harden, so now they have a ball-handler. They have a guy who can play four different positions. He’ll make ’em tougher, or he’ll call ’em out and get ’em traded, either one. I mean, it’s just facts.”
James and Frye played together on the Cavs years ago and even won a title together in the 2015-16 season.
Since then, James has added one NBA title to his collection (in 2020 with the Lakers), but the Cavs have yet to reach the same heights. Currently, they are in the Eastern Conference Finals with a chance to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since their James era, but they are in an 0-2 hole in their ongoing series against the New York Knicks.
Frye brought up Harden, who has struggled at times in these playoffs with Cleveland. Adding James would give the Cavs a level of playoff experience and leadership that is invaluable to any team.
But acquiring the future Hall of Famer may not be an easy task due to cap obstacles, so Cleveland may have to get creative if it wants to truly pursue him this offseason.
James is aging but remains a very good NBA player, as evidenced by his 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game this season. He would be a tough piece to replace for the Lakers, who are entering an important offseason.
The Cavs may want to prove to themselves that they can get over the championship hump without James — something they’ve never done in their franchise history — but if they fall short again this year after making some significant trades around the deadline, they may have no choice but to consider the idea of bringing the team legend home.
Many teams have reportedly already called about James. That could include the Cavs. No matter how the situation unfolds from here, everyone can likely agree that James going home to Cleveland would be a storybook ending to his career.

Kendrick Perkins says LeBron already has offseason plan that he’s keeping secret
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James spoke about his future during a recent episode of the “Mind the Game” podcast, and he left a lot to the imagination.
James said that he doesn’t know what his future holds yet, and he even indicated that it could be months before it comes into focus.
But former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins, who played with James years ago, thinks that the future Hall of Famer already has a plan in place.
Kendrick Perkins calls out LeBron James for fishing for attention

— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) May 22, 2026
“We took the bait,” said Perkins. “… He caught the attention that he wanted while his a– is sitting at home. I’ve been knowing Bron all my life. He moves like the president. He already has a plan in place. He know what he’s doing. He know what his next move in. He know what the counter is gonna be. He know where he wanna go, where he wanna be, if he wanna be on the Lakers. He already know that.”
This is a pivotal offseason for James, who has options as he considers his next move. He could retire and call it quits on his NBA career after 23 legendary seasons, but it seems more likely that he will return for more and continue his run of incredible longevity.
The question then becomes whether he will keep playing with the Lakers or turn the page after eight seasons in L.A.
This is one area where James doesn’t have total control. Even though he’s set to hit free agency, there are logistical obstacles that could make it tough for some teams to legitimately pursue him, especially since he doesn’t appear interested in taking the veteran minimum.
As such, it may not be as simple as James just picking his destination at will this offseason. But a recent report did detail that virtually “every contender” in the league has called about James, so there is clearly no shortage of interest.
No team is likely to build around the 41-year-old at this stage of his career, but he could certainly be a key piece for a team that is trying to get over the championship hump. James has won four NBA titles during his career, and one has to imagine that he’d love nothing more than to get a fifth before walking away from the game.
Those are some of the factors that he is going to have to think about this offseason, but if Perkins is right, James has likely already considered all of them.

Lou Williams takes issue with idea that Kobe Bryant was never best player in NBA
📄 正文
While Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, his career overlapped with those of some other NBA icons.
For that reason, Bryant, in the eyes of some, might’ve lacked a time in his career where he was definitively the best player in the world.
That’s how sports analyst Nick Wright sees it, but former NBA guard Lou Williams isn’t going to let that claim go unchecked.
Lou Williams DISAGREES with Nick Wright saying Kobe Bryant was NEVER the best player in the NBA

Williams and Bryant were in the NBA at the same time for many years and were even teammates in the 2015-16 season, so Williams got an up-close look at how Bryant operated.
Wright explained his viewpoint in detail earlier this month, noting that he sees Bryant as the eighth-greatest player in NBA history even though he was “never the best player in the world.”
Nick Wright says he’s got Kobe Bryant as the 8th greatest player ever, and he was never the best player in the world:
“I know people get mad at that take, but here’s the problem and the reason Kobe was never the best player in the world. Because once Kobe got great, call it 99,… pic.twitter.com/PKqdOhJR1c
— NBA Courtside (@NBA__Courtside) May 8, 2026
It is theoretically possible for an all-time great to never be the No. 1 player in the NBA. Whether or not Bryant fell into that category is up for debate.
Bryant had a remarkable five-year run in the middle of his career in which he accomplished something huge each season. Here’s a look at that stretch of his career:
2005-06 season: won scoring title (35.4 points per game)
2006-07 season: won scoring title (31.6 points per game)
2007-08 season: won league MVP
2008-09 season: won NBA title and Finals MVP
2009-10 season: won NBA title and Finals MVP
Wright maintains, however, that fellow NBA legends Tim Duncan and LeBron James held the reins at different points during that part of Bryant’s career.
This topic, like the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) debate, is something that can’t truly be settled due to its subjective nature. Even today, some will argue over who is currently the best player in the NBA, which demonstrates how the waters get murky at times.
But Bryant, with his five NBA titles and countless personal accolades, certainly put together one of the best careers in league history, and his status as one of the top basketball players of all time isn’t in doubt.

LeBron’s ex-teammate thinks star could delay retirement to as late as 2029
📄 正文
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has reached a stage of his NBA career where each passing season leads to retirement speculation, and this summer is no different.
The veteran just completed his 23rd season in the league and hasn’t announced that he’ll be coming back for more, even though that seems to be the expectation around the NBA world.
If James were to return for another season, many have theorized that it would be his last in the league, but James’ former teammate Kendrick Perkins seems to think that the 41-year-old has multiple years left in the tank.
“I don’t think LeBron James retire after next year to be honest,” Perkins said. “I think he got two or three more years left in the tank.”
James playing three more years would delay his retirement until the summer of 2029, a timeline that would certainly surprise many. But with the way the future Hall of Famer played this season, it’s easy to understand why Perkins thinks James still has lots of basketball left in him.
The Lakers star averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from beyond the arc. While that’s remarkable production for any 41-year-old, what makes James’ season even more impressive is that he likely could’ve done more had his role required it.
Instead, L.A. leaned heavily on star guards Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves during the regular season, which allowed James to take a step back. But in the playoffs, his number was called due to injuries, and he stepped up by averaging 23.2 points per game and leading the team to a series win.
If James opts to continue his career, he will need to decide where to spend the 2026-27 season. A return to the Lakers is certainly possible. But if his career does end up lasting two or three more seasons, that may increase the likelihood that he puts on another jersey at some point in time.
NBA fans certainly don’t want to see the league’s all-time leading scorer retire anytime soon, so if Perkins’ theory is right, that’s good news for everyone.

NBA exec says LeBron James may force Lakers to leave him behind
📄 正文
The future of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James remains a question mark as the NBA offseason approaches, and according to the man himself, it could be a while before some clarity comes.
James suggested during a recent episode of his podcast that his future could remain undetermined into August.
A scenario like that might put the Lakers in a tricky spot, as they need to build a roster this offseason one way another. According to one NBA executive, there’s “no way” L.A. can wait up for him.
“It’s LeBron James,” the executive said, per Heavy Sports. “You want to give him all the time he needs, he has earned it. But if you’re building a team, there’s no way you can wait. It is going to be, ‘We either gotta do this with you or without you.’ And if it is without him, then you’ve got some tough decisions to make.
“But you can’t build your team with a $50 million player who might or might not play. If he says he is not sure, they have no choice–they’ve got to move forward like he is not going to be there, and that could really make the decision for him.”
James’ options this summer as a pending free agent are essentially to return to Los Angeles, join a new team or call it quits on his legendary NBA career.
For what it’s worth, NBA insider Brian Windhorst seems to think that by the draft, there will be clarity on James’ future with the Lakers specifically.
Brian Windhorst on LeBrons future:
“I think by the draft which is 1 month from today, we will know whether LeBron will be a Laker or not.” https://t.co/0kvl5YB02j pic.twitter.com/f0OuXP7SYE
— NBA Courtside (@NBA__Courtside) May 22, 2026
The Lakers are facing lots of uncertainty going into the offseason, as several of their top contributors could hit free agency. In addition to James, Austin Reaves (player option), Marcus Smart (player option), Deandre Ayton (player option), Rui Hachimura, Luka Kennard and others could all hit free agency this summer.
That’s a daunting list for the Lakers, who are looking to build a contending team around new franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic. If the organization can get significant money off its books this offseason, that may open up some doors in terms of making a splash somewhere else, but some of L.A.’s potential free agents this offseason would be incredibly hard to replace.
When it comes to James, he remains an elite talent even at 41 years of age. This season, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game for the Lakers while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from beyond the arc.
In the postseason, he had to carry a bigger load due to injuries to L.A.’s other stars, and he rose to the occasion. He averaged 23.2 points per game and helped the Lakers win a series before they ultimately bowed out in the second round.
It may be hard for the franchise to find a more productive option for its roster next season than James, so if both sides are interested in staying together, hopefully they can make that happen.

Paul Pierce on possible Jalen Duren-Austin Reaves swap: ‘I love that’
📄 正文
The Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons both took second-round exits in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, and each team could be in the market for some help this offseason.
Both squads also have some question marks surrounding key players. Two of those players are Austin Reaves and Jalen Duren.
Reaves is likely to opt out of the final year of his deal with the Lakers this offseason and become an unrestricted free agent. Duren, meanwhile, is set to hit restricted free agency.
During a recent podcast, Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce was asked about the idea of Reaves and Duren swapping teams through a sign-and-trade. He was excited by the idea.
“I like that,” Pierce said of the idea. “I love that for both teams. You get a young big you could put with Luka Doncic in Duren, then you (the Pistons) get the scoring punch that you need on the perimeter.”
Pierce did note that a move like that would deplete Detroit’s depth at big man, which the team would have to address.
For the Lakers, moving on from Reaves would be an incredible loss, as he’s gone from an undrafted signing to a borderline All-Star in the NBA. This season, he averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game for the Lakers.
Adding Duren, however, would certainly be something. He is only 22 years old and earned an All-Star nod this season with the Pistons. He averaged a double-double for a third consecutive season and also finished 11th in the Defensive Player of the Year race.
In the regular season, he averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. But it is worth noting that in the playoffs, his production regressed to the tune of 10.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, with his efficiency also taking a hit.
He’d be a fascinating piece to pair with Doncic as the Lakers look to build a long-term contender moving forward.
Detroit, meanwhile, is looking to do the same. Adding Reaves would give the team an intriguing backcourt that would also feature star guard Cade Cunningham.
Although the Pistons won 60 games in the 2025-26 regular season and came one win away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, they were pushed to seven games in the first round against the No. 8 seed and arguably should have taken care of business in the second round against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Their playoff run certainly had its flaws.
As such, they should keep as many options on the table as possible this offseason.

Caron Butler says Kobe Bryant’s basketball persona was ‘almost like a facade’
📄 正文
Former NBA star Caron Butler got a chance to play alongside Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant for a season, and they ultimately built a close friendship that lasted many years.
Somewhere along the way, Butler realized that Bryant was just an “ordinary dude” off the basketball court.
“So many stories have been told since the tragedy, but I would say that everything that you probably heard, it was almost like a facade, like it was something that he created,” Butler said. “And then away from the game of basketball, he was just totally different. … Away from the sport, away from the game, he was just like your ordinary dude.”
Butler and Bryant were teammates in the 2004-05 NBA season after the Lakers acquired Butler as part of the deal that sent legendary big man Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat.
Butler was going into his third NBA season at the time after an inconsistent start to his career with the Heat. With the Lakers, he put together a solid 2004-05 campaign, averaging 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Bryant, adjusting to life without O’Neal, put together a season in which he averaged 27.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game, but in some ways, it was a forgettable season for the Hall of Famer, especially since the Lakers missed the playoffs.
Butler’s tenure with the Lakers ended after one season, and Bryant took his game to new heights in the following years. In a three-season span, he won two scoring titles and one MVP award. Then, he helped the Lakers win back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010, giving him five rings in total after he won three during the O’Neal area.
Butler also did well for himself after his lone season with Bryant. He spent the next few seasons with the Washington Wizards, where he became a two-time All-Star. He ultimately played 14 seasons in the NBA before calling it quits.
Countless stories have been told about Bryant since he lost his life in 2020, and many of them have indeed painted him in an otherworldly light. However, Butler’s comments on the 18-time All-Star are a reminder that away from the bright lights, each and every person is only human at the end of the day.

Eddie Johnson says LeBron’s now-dead streak will ‘never’ be matched again
📄 正文
Former NBA player Eddie Johnson believes that one LeBron James streak will “never” be matched again.
James had made an All-NBA team in every season besides his rookie campaign until he failed to reach the 65-game threshold to be eligible for the honor in the 2025-26 season. So, James’ streak – which started in his second NBA season – has finally come to an end after 21 straight years.
Johnson believes that streak is untouchable, and it makes sense given James’ longevity.
What an amazing feat. We will never see this from any player. https://t.co/Wd4Kc9b3eH
— Eddie A Johnson (@Jumpshot8) May 25, 2026
James has played 23 seasons in the NBA, and he may decide to come back for a 24th season in the 2026-27 campaign. No player in NBA history has played in as many seasons as the Los Angeles Lakers star, so it makes sense that Johnson believes James’ feat will never be matched.
No player in NBA history has played in more regular-season games (1,622) or playoff games (302) than James, and he’s played over 61,000 minutes in the regular season. The four-time champion is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 43,440 points in the regular season, and he’s also the all-time leader in points in the playoffs with 8,521.
James’ entire career is unprecedented, and since he’s arguably the greatest player of all time, it’s hard to see anyone coming close to that in the future.
Not only has James played for 23 seasons and done so at a high level, but he’s also had just one season where he played fewer than 55 games. His ability to stay healthy has gone a long way toward helping him set some of these records, and it’s possible he will be back in the mix to make an All-NBA team in the 2026-27 season.
After all, James still played 60 games in the 2025-26 season after missing the start of the campaign with sciatica. Even at 41 years old, his numbers were impressive. James made yet another All-Star team, and he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3 during the regular season.
Then, he followed that up by playing even better in the postseason, averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest across 10 playoff games.
It would take a very special player to come anywhere near some of James’ all-time records, and the Lakers star can add to some of them if he decides to continue his career for a 24th season.

Ex-NBA pro says Cavs should ‘celebrate tonight’ because of LeBron’s future
📄 正文
Former NBA player Eddie Johnson took to social media and attempted to give Cleveland Cavaliers fans something to cheer for ahead of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Johnson suggested that the Cavs “celebrate tonight” because he thinks that franchise legend LeBron James will return to the team to finish his NBA career.
The Cavs were not going to win a Title even if they had won the East and so the Cavs should celebrate tonight because I predict LeBron James is returning to complete his basketball journey next year in a big way! pic.twitter.com/WVUPxLHx76
— Eddie A Johnson (@Jumpshot8) May 25, 2026
Johnson even offered a solution to anyone worried about the Cavs’ ability to pay James.
I don’t wanna hear about Cavs can’t pay him. I know, but guess who would? Nike, Madison Avenue and local advertisements. It would be a great story for the potential GOAT!
— Eddie A Johnson (@Jumpshot8) May 25, 2026
James has been with the Los Angeles Lakers since the 2018-19 season, but he’s an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason. An Ohio native, James was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cavs in the 2003 NBA Draft, and he won a championship with the franchise in the 2015-16 season.
James has left Cleveland twice – once for the Miami Heat and once for the Lakers – but he’s nearing the end of his NBA career and could decide to finish it with his hometown team. The Lakers could make a push to keep James this offseason, but ultimately the four-time champion will decide where he’ll play next since he’s no longer under contract with Los Angeles.
The Cavs made the Eastern Conference Finals this season for the first time since James left for L.A., but they’ve been outclassed by the New York Knicks, losing the first three games of the series. It’s possible that Cleveland will look to shake up its roster for next season if it is swept by New York on Monday.
James may not be the superstar that he was during his earlier stints with the Cavs, but he’s still an All-Star and played at a high level in the 2025-26 season at 41 years of age. This season, James appeared in 60 games and averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3.
He also had a strong playoff run, leading the Lakers past the Houston Rockets in the first round even though star guard Luka Doncic did not play in the series while fellow star Austin Reaves missed four of the six games.
Los Angeles was swept in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but James ended up averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest across 10 games of postseason action.
It’s possible James will return to Cleveland for the 2026-27 season, but Johnson seems to just be making a prediction ahead of the offseason.

NBA legend Tracy McGrady recently talked about Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and his greatness, praising the four-time champion for his cardiovascular strength and ability to stay in elite shape.
“Being in tip-top shape is part of the game, right?” McGrady began. “Cardiovascular’s part of the game. That’s why LeBron James is so f—— great because he outplays and outlasts everybody in the game. A playoff game, you look down there at the fourth quarter at him, Game 7, that motherf—– ain’t sweating, man. He fresh.”
James has played 23 seasons in the NBA, yet he’s remained relatively healthy throughout his entire career. James has played in at least 55 games in all but one season (the 2020-21 campaign), and he’s played in more regular-season games (1,622) than anyone in NBA history.
On top of that, James has been to the NBA Finals 10 times in his career and has played in more playoff games (302) than anyone in NBA history as well. He had a stretch during his career where he reached the NBA Finals in eight straight seasons, showing remarkable durability year in and year out.
There’s no doubt that availability goes a long way toward a player being great. Even in his 23rd year, James appeared in 60 games for the Lakers in the regular season despite missing the start of the campaign with sciatica.
In the 2025-26 season, the four-time MVP made yet another All-Star team, and he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3.
Then, he was the only Lakers star healthy for all 10 of the team’s playoff games, as Luka Doncic (hamstring) did not play in the playoffs while Austin Reaves (oblique) missed the first four games of the Lakers’ run.
James led the Lakers to a 3-0 series lead against the Houston Rockets and eventually took them to the second round before they were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder. During the playoff run for L.A., James ended up averaging 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game.
It’s very possible that the NBA will never see another player like James, and it’s also possible he will return for a 24th season in the 2026-27 campaign. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer, James has a chance to set a ton of records because of his longevity and how well he’s taken care of his body during his career.

Report: Lakers linked to sneaky big man prospect ahead of 2026 NBA Draft
📄 正文
The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to big man Duke Brennan ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.
Brennan reportedly will have an official workout with the Lakers on Tuesday, putting him on the radar as a potential option for Los Angeles. The Lakers only have one pick in the 2026 NBA Draft (their first-round selection) since they traded away their 2026 second-round pick years ago. Brennan isn’t projected to go in the first round.

pic.twitter.com/KgHfxnCMkA
— OG6 Sports Management (@OG6_SM) May 25, 2026
Still, Brennan could be a player to watch for Los Angeles as it looks to improve its frontcourt. The Lakers have several potential free agents this offseason, including some that could impact their big man depth.
Brennan spent four seasons in college, beginning his career at Arizona State University before transferring to Grand Canyon University, where he spent two seasons. He was an All-WAC selection in the 2024-25 season and made the conference’s All-Defense team in the same campaign.
He then transferred to Villanova University ahead of the 2025-26 season, where he eventually earned All-Big East honors. Brennan had a huge 2025-26 campaign, averaging 12.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 65.8 percent from the field.
The big man didn’t shoot many 3s in his college career (he was 1-for-3 overall), but he’s a proven inside presence that averaged over nine rebounds per game in each of his last two collegiate seasons.
Since it doesn’t appear that Brennan will be a first-round pick, the Lakers may value him as a potential undrafted free agent option following the 2026 NBA Draft. Los Angeles would love to improve its depth down low after multiple seasons of shaky big man play ever since the team moved on from Anthony Davis in the Luka Doncic trade.
The Lakers have a lot of moves to consider making this offseason, but finding another undrafted player that could help them in the future would be a major win. Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso have both played major roles as undrafted players for the Lakers in the past, and it’s possible Brennan could increase L.A.’s interest in him with a strong workout on Tuesday.

Report: Lakers just hired ‘literal rocket scientist’ to join front office
📄 正文
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly bolstering their front office by hiring Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under Rob Pelinka.
“The Los Angeles Lakers made their first significant move of the offseason by hiring Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under president and GM Rob Pelinka, sources told ESPN on Monday,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Shams Charania wrote.
Ramadas has a very impressive background, as he spent the past decade or so working in some capacity for the New Orleans Pelicans, including two years in a full-time role with the franchise. The new Lakers front office member was most recently the vice president of strategy and operations with New Orleans. A Pelicans source offered ESPN a comment on Ramadas.
“He’s a literal rocket scientist,” the source said.
That comment doesn’t appear to be hyperbole, either. Ramadas has worked both in the NBA and aerospace. According to the Pelicans, the executive spent 12 years “supporting the Aerospace Corporation, U.S. Space Force, and NASA as a rocket guidance, navigation, control, and mission design engineer.”
So, the Lakers are clearly bringing in a very gifted individual to help Pelinka and the franchise.
“While working for the Pelicans, Ramadas implemented AI and coded models to aid the front office, the source told ESPN,” McMenamin and Charania wrote.
According to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, Ramadas is regarded as “very smart” by people around the league.
I can confirm the Lakers have hired Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager. Ramadas worked for the New Orleans Pelicans the past two seasons in strategy and has a background in aerospace. Regarded as very smart by people in the league who know him.
— Dan Woike (@DanWoikeSports) May 25, 2026
The Lakers are looking to make improvements to their roster in the offseason, and adding someone as experienced and savvy as Ramadas to the front office is a good start. Hopefully, he can help Pelinka and the Lakers shape their roster around Luka Doncic as they look to contend for a title in the 2026-27 season and beyond.
The Lakers made the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference in the 2025-26 season, but an injury to Doncic limited the team’s ceiling in the postseason. The Lakers beat the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs behind some strong play from LeBron James, but they were then swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
If Los Angeles wants to compete with the Thunder and San Antonio Spurs in the West, it has to improve its roster, especially since James (41 years old) is nearing the end of his career. Hopefully, Ramadas will bring some new insight to help the Lakers make the most of their cap space and assets in the coming offseason.

Deandre Ayton Describes Lakers Season As ‘Humbling Experience’ After Making Sacrifices
📄 正文
Coming into this season for the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most intriguing pieces was center Deandre Ayton. The former top overall pick was looking to change the narrative on his career after a down year and questions about his dedication to the game and overall attitude.
There were certainly some ups and downs throughout the season, but ultimately Ayton did lean into his role as more of a rebounder and rim protector and thrived for the most part once he did so. Even still, the big man admitted that his first season with the Lakers was a humbling one.
“A lot of sacrifices,” Ayton said when asked how his season went. “I came in with a different mindset and I had to adjust. It was a very humbling experience as well, so I’m just really glad I got to show that and my style of play, just being coachable and doing what’s best for the team.”
Ayton infamously ranted in the locker room about the role the Lakers were asking him to play. However, he would eventually accept that the Lakers didn’t need him to be a scorer, but rather a physical presence in the paint.
“I came in here with a scorer’s mentality and we don’t really need that,” Ayton added. “We have the best players on the team and the best playmakers. I tiny bit had to break down my game where it’s just rebounding and defending the rim is what the team wanted. It’s not what I want, but it’s what the team wanted to do to progress to wins.”
This was best on display during the Lakers’ first-round playoff victory over the Houston Rockets, where Ayton’s physicality and defense against Alperen Sengun was a major factor in their success. Ultimately, Ayton was proud of how he adapted his game to fit what the Lakers needed.
“Just how I accepted everything and adapted,” Ayton responded when asked what he is most proud of. “I feel like I grew in some areas where I never thought I was gonna really grow up. Just accepting the challenge and the criticism, constructive criticism as well, and just being that guy the team wants me to be, no matter what it is. I’m really happy I have it at 27 to sit down and be coachable.”
Deandre Ayton can control his future
Ayton has a player option for $8.1 million next season and it is unclear whether he will choose to return or opt out for a bigger contract.
It certainly wasn’t a perfect season as there were times where things were great and others where he saw himself watching the end of games from the bench. Whether he will be back with the Lakers next season is anyone’s guess at this point, but Ayton holds all of the cards due to that player option.

Rob Pelinka: Lakers Are In Constant Communication With Luka Doncic On Roster Building
📄 正文
This offseason could see some big changes to the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster. The front office wants to build the team around superstar guard Luka Doncic and this summer they have the means to do it with salary cap space and draft picks to explore additions via free agency, trades and the NBA Draft.
In this day and age, this process is one that includes the superstar themselves and that is undoubtedly the case between the Lakers and Doncic as Rob Pelinka noted that the franchise is in constant communication with the guard on finding the right pieces to place around him.
“I think the keyword is that’s an ongoing, collaborative process,” Pelinka said during his end-of-season press conference. “It’s not, ‘Hey, I want X, Y and Z.’ So we’re in constant communication with him and his team. I plan on seeing him before he takes off to go home and spend some time with his daughters. We’re going to get together, I think on Friday or Saturday, so ongoing dialogue.
“He’s an incredible partner. His basketball IQ on the court is something we get to see as fans. JJ and I get to see his basketball knowledge in terms of other players in the league, and the way he wants to play and who he wants to play with. His knowledge base is vast, so those dyes and collaboration with him are actually really inspirational. He also does it in a way where he wants to do his job great and he wants to let JJ do his job great, and let me do my job great. So they really are productive conversations through that lens.”
The Lakers are reportedly looking to lock down a secondary creator long-term, which in all likelihood would be Austin Reaves as he and Doncic showed great chemistry this season. The team would also like to improve the center position with more of a rim-running option that Doncic is used to along with some true two-way wings who can improve perimeter defense and provide consistent shooting.
What is great is that the Lakers and Doncic are on the same page with what their plans are and the front office will do everything in their power to maximize the potential of this roster going into next season.
Luka Doncic finishes fourth in NBA MVP voting
One thing that is for sure is that Doncic is a true franchise player the Lakers can build around. He was outstanding in his first full season with the team, leading the NBA in scoring and ultimately finishing fourth in NBA MVP voting.

Lakers Rumors: ‘A Lot Of Teams’ Have Already Called Rich Paul About LeBron James
📄 正文
One of the biggest questions this offseason, not only for the Los Angeles Lakers, but around the entire NBA, is the future of LeBron James. The superstar clearly has plenty left in the tank and can contribute at a high level, but after 23 years in the NBA, he could choose to call it a career.
James is also an unrestricted free agent this summer and will be free to sign with any team he chooses. He is sure to have plenty of suitors this offseason and, according to reports, that includes basically every top team in the league.
“Honestly, I think LeBron, more than past years, probably needs even more time with his family, with his inner circle,” ESPN’s Shams Charania said in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “I do know a lot of teams are calling him and his camp. I spoke to Rich Paul the other day at the Chicago Draft Combine last week, and he told me every contender in the NBA, essentially, since the season ended has placed a call.”
It makes sense that any team with championship aspirations is gauging where James stands and whether he would be interested in joining them next season. But first and foremost, James has to want to play another season and that is no guarantee as he has put more miles on his body than any player in NBA history. And that decision may not come for a while as, like Charania noted, James will be taking some time away to be with his family.
Should he choose to play a 24th NBA season, then it will be about what he is looking for and his priorities when choosing a team. The Lakers have been open about their desire to want him back, and considering his family is based in Southern California, and his son Bronny James still is under contract with the Lakers, a return is an obvious possibility.
But there will certainly be plenty of other teams looking to bring him in with the likes of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers being mentioned as possibilities. Regardless this will be one of the most watched stories of the offseason and rumors are already beginning to swirl before the offseason officially begins.
Bronny James has ‘no clue’ about LeBron James’ future
No one is sure what James will do next season be it return to the Lakers, sign elsewhere or retire. And that includes his own son as Bronny made it clear that he has no clue what his father has planned.

Bam Adebayo Named 2026-26 NBA Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion
📄 正文
The NBA announced that Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has been named the 2025-26 Social Justice Champion, a trophy named after Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
In addition to giving Adebayo the away, the NBA also will be making a $100,000 donation to his organization, Bam, Books & Brotherhood Foundation. That is the cool part about this award as they make a charitable donation selected by the award winner on their behalf.
“Bam Adebayo has followed in the path of Kareem and other humanitarian leaders from throughout the league’s history by using his platform to create sustained impact for young people and families across South Florida and North Carolina,” said NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum in a statement. “From investing in educational access and youth mentorship to addressing food insecurity and creating spaces where young people can thrive, Bam has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing opportunity and equity for others. We are proud to recognize him as the 2025-26 NBA Social Justice Champion.”
Abdul-Jabbar’s life mission is to engage, empower and drive equality for communities that have been disadvantaged and under-resourced. This is what made the Lakers legend a one-of-one kind of person as he used his platform to pay back it to those who need more resources to succeed in life.
To name a few of Adebayo’s actions, he provided mattresses, uniforms and school supplies for students at the SEED School of Miami, provided funding transportation for more than 19,000 students to attend the Miami Book Fair and hosting mentorship and enrichment opportunities for students to explore career pathways.
There are more charitable actions that the Heat star has done and he certainly deserved Abdul Jabbar’s award. He was selected from a group of finalists that included Harrison Barnes (San Antonio Spurs), Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Tobias Harris (Detroit Pistons) and Larry Nance Jr. (Cleveland Cavaliers).
Despite not winning awards, plenty of NBA players have taken advantage of their successes and paid it forward. They do not do it for notoriety, but they do it so communities have an equal opportunity to strive for success in life.
All-time winners of Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s NBA Social Justice award
The 2020-21 season was the inauguration of the NBA Social Justice award with former Lakers forward Carmelo Anthony winning it. Followed by Reggie Bullock (Dallas Mavericks), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics) and now Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat) in 2026.

Deandre Ayton Appreciates JJ Redick & Lakers Coaching Staff Having His Back
📄 正文
One of the most interesting pieces of the Los Angeles Lakers’ season was center Deandre Ayton. The former first overall pick came to L.A. looking to revitalize his career under the brightest lights and while there were some positive times, there were some rough stretches as well.
But one thing that never changed was head coach JJ Redick’s belief in the big man and Ayton appreciated the support he received from Redick and the Lakers’ coaching staff.
“He’s really proud of the group,” Ayton said of Redick after the Lakers were eliminated. “How much faith he had, this being his 17th season with an NBA team, he’s just really proud of each and every one of us. He really gave me some burdens off my shoulder. He showed in the media that he had my back as well. He’s a really good coach and I was just really honored to be coached by him and his staff.”
Redick never hesitated to call Ayton out on certain areas if he was struggling, but even when doing that he always spoke highly of the center and expressed belief that he would help the team win when it came down to it. Having that level of belief from the head coach can do wonders for a player’s confidence.
Ayton’s numbers certainly didn’t stand out compared to previous seasons, and of course there was the mid-season rant about his desired role within the team. But he deserves credit for eventually embracing his role as a rim-runner, rebounder and defender and Redick and the Lakers’ staff surely played a big role in him accepting that.
Without his defensive effort in the first round of the playoffs against Houston Rockets All-Star Alperen Sengun, that series could have turned out much differently. Things didn’t go nearly as well for Ayton against the Oklahoma City Thunder as he struggled mightily, but it doesn’t change the fact that there were some successes along the way as well.
With Ayton holding a player option for next season, it is unclear whether he will be returning to Lakers. But with how highly he speaks of Redick, that could play a role in his decision this offseason.
Deandre Ayton calls Lakers season a ‘humbling’ experience
Ayton also took some time to break down how his first season with the Lakers went in his eyes, calling it a humbling experience while being proud of himself for accepting the sacrifices he needed to make and embracing the role he needed to play.

LeBron James Happy To Go Into Offseason Without Needing Rehab
📄 正文
For LeBron James to still be playing at such a high level in his 23rd NBA season at 41 years is truly unbelievable. But the work that James has to put in on his body to step on the court for the Los Angeles Lakers should not go unnoticed.
James has put more miles on his body than anyone in NBA history and it is starting to catch up. James has had some lingering injuries and other physical issues that force him to spend much of his offseason in rehab and recovery mode. But that isn’t the case this year and James is very happy with that.
“Just been chilling, man,” James said when asked how his offseason is going on the latest episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast. “Just taking the whole season in and getting the opportunity to recover. I had a couple bumps and bruises to end the season, but I think we both can agree that an offseason without rehab is a success after a long season, so I’ll take it.”
Of course, James sat out the season opener for the first time in his NBA career this season, ultimately missing the first 14 games of the regular season. But once he did take the court, he missed just eight more the rest of the year and continued to be one of the driving forces of this Lakers team. James even seen diving on the floor for loose balls this season, literally putting his body on the line.
James thrived once he embraced a third option role, but then stepped up as the primary creator once injuries took out Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, leading the Lakers to a playoff series victory over the Houston Rockets.
Once athletes get older, it isn’t necessarily the games themselves that are most difficult, but often it is the recovery aspect as it just takes longer for the body to get to the level it needs to be. For James to put his body through all that he did this season, and just be able to relax instead of rehab now that the season is over, is truly an accomplishment.
LeBron James discusses mindset, timeline going into free agency
Whether James will return for a 24th NBA season remains unclear and he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer should he choose to continue his career. And he recently broke down his mindset going into the offseason as well as giving a rough timeline on when he could make his decision.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant has impacted numerous athletes across all sports, and one of them is Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain.
McCain, who grew up in California and went to high school in Corona, spoke about his earliest basketball memories involving Bryant after he helped lead the Thunder to a Game 3 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals
“The earliest (memory) of watching playoff basketball, I think I wanna say 2011 when I was seven,” McCain said after the Thunder’s Game 3 win. “I remember walking into my parents room and seeing, was that Lakers? Were the Lakers in there? Probably. I remember walking in there and seeing my brother and my dad watching it and I’m kind of lost at that age, I was lost.
“But I remember watching and seeing Kobe. Kobe’s been my favorite player since I started playing basketball so I gravitated towards him and his mentality. So I think that was my earliest memory.”
McCain was surprisingly traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Thunder at the deadline, and he has fit in perfectly off the bench for the defending-champs.
While Oklahoma City already boasted incredible depth on their roster, adding McCain put them on a different level. After the Thunder fell down 15-0 on the road to the Spurs in Game 3, they went to their bench, where McCain, Alex Caruso and others completely flipped the game around.
McCain wound up playing 27 minutes in the comeback victory and finished with 24 points and four rebounds on 10-of-21 shooting off the bench. For a 22-year-old to play without fear in a hostile environment like that is pretty impressive, and will again draw comparisons to Bryant as he had similar performances early in his career to help lead the Lakers to three straight titles from 2000-02.
NBA Draft prospects likes to study Kobe Bryant
It’s cool to see that young athletes still look up to Bryant and everything he accomplished as top NBA Draft prospect Caleb Wilson recently revealed the Lakers legend is one of the players he studies regularly.
“Probably a lot of Kobe, a whole bunch of Kobe. That was my dad’s favorite player and mine too,” Wilson recently said. “Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace too, the Bad Boy Pistons. I mean, I watch a lot of Mike [Michael Jordan] too. I mean, lately I’ve been watching Giannis a lot. I feel like closer and closer I get to the NBA, my athleticism and my size translates me to his skillset. So, I watch a lot of him, but that’s pretty much it.”

Patrick Ewing Believes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Deserves To Be In GOAT Discussions
📄 正文
By the time Patrick Ewing entered the NBA as the top overall pick of the New York Knicks in 1985, Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was in the latter stages of his career. But even in those final few years, Abdul-Jabbar was still capable of some big nights, especially with his patented skyhook.
Ewing experienced this first-hand as well, telling a story about trying to warn then-Knicks coach Rick Pitino that Abdul-Jabbar was still someone who needed extra attention defensively.
“So Rick Pitino was our coach at this time, and we are getting ready to face the Lakers,” Ewing said during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show. “And Rick was like ‘No we’re not gonna double Kareem, he’s getting older’ and I’m like, ‘Rick, he may be getting older but he is still good.’ So Kareem got heated, he got hot. And I don’t care what I did I could push him to the 3-point line he still was rolling that skyhook and I said ‘Rick what did I tell you? We need to double him.’”
The skyhook is a shot that only Abdul-Jabbar was able to master and it led him to be the NBA’s greatest scorer, until LeBron James came along of course. But despite all of his accomplishments, both individually and team, Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t always get mentioned in those conversations about the greatest players of all-time, which Ewing doesn’t understand.
“When they talk about greatest of all-time, they very rarely put him (Kareem) in there, and what he did was special,” Ewing added. “He was 7’2 and he developed a shot that was virtually unstoppable. I remember when Pat Riley came to the Knicks he tried to get me to develop a skyhook I’m like ‘Coach, that is not my game. The Captain was special, that’s his thing. I’m a jump shooter’… I just didn’t get the feel of a skyhook, I was more of a jump hook guy. I used the jump hook as one of the pieces to my game.”
Ewing was far from alone in not being able to master that skyhook, but Abdul-Jabbar used it to the greatest success possible and the Lakers legend still stands high on the list of all-time greats because of it.
Lakers not expected to have best trade offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be on the move this offseason and the Lakers have been known to have interest in acquiring him. And while they have some trade assets, the Lakers are not expected to be able to compete with some of the best offers that can be made for Antetokounmpo this summer.

Luka Doncic’s first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers was an exceptional one, and he is now being recognized for it.
The league has announced the 2025-26 All-NBA teams, and Doncic made First Time along with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama and Cade Cunningham:

The complete voting results pic.twitter.com/7NbX05bwr2
— NBA Communications (@NBAPR) May 24, 2026
The first four spots were pretty straight forward as Doncic, Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokic and Wembanyama all had MVP-caliber seasons. The Lakers star wound up finishing fourth with Gilgeous-Alexander winning it for the second straight year.
That left one spot available, and it was claimed by Cunningham over the likes of Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard and other deserving candidates.
For Doncic, this is his sixth First Team All-NBA nod in just eight total seasons after being drafted third overall in 2018. That puts him in the top 20 in league history despite being just 27 years of age. LeBron James, of course, has the most in NBA history with 13, followed by Kobe Bryant with 11.
Doncic almost was not eligible for All-NBA this season as he fell one game short of reaching the 65-game minimum when he hurt his left hamstring near the end of the regular season. He filed an Extraordinary Circumstances appeal though after missing a pair of games for the birth of his daughter, and that was accepted to make him eligible.
Doncic’s 64 games definitely making him worthy of First Team All-NBA as he led the league in scoring with 33.5 points per game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 36.6% from 3-point range. He also added 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
During the season, Doncic was the only player in the West with multiple Player of the Month honors, including March when he led the Lakers to an impressive 15-2 record. L.A. wound up winning 53 games to earn the fourth seed in the West despite numerous players missing significant time due to injury.
While Doncic wasn’t healthy to end the year, he is already back on his diet and workout plan to get ready for next season, where he and the Lakers can hopefully take the next step towards contention.
2025-26 All-NBA Teams
First Team
Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons
Luka Doncic, Los Angeles Lakers
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets
Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs
Second Team
Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics
Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks
Kevin Durant, Houston Rockets
Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers

Lakers Rumors: Rohan Ramadas Being Hired As Assistant General Manager
📄 正文
Since Mark Walter took over as majority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, the organization has expanded in different areas.
One thing Rob Pelinka made clear after the team was eliminated from the playoffs was that the Lakers would continue to add to their front office, particularly adding two assistant general managers to work under him. And it appears they have found their first one as they are hiring Rohan Ramadas away from the New Orleans Pelicans organization, per Shams Charania of ESPN:
The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring former New Orleans Pelicans vice president of strategy and operations Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under president Rob Pelinka, sources tell me and @mcten. The Lakers have interviewed candidates to bolster their front office.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 25, 2026
Ramadas began working full-time with the Pelicans in 2024, first under the title of senior director of analytics and innovation before switching to vice president of basketball operations and strategy in 2025. Before working with the Pelicans, Ramadas spent 12 years working for the Aerospace Corporation in the engineering space.
While he didn’t start full-time with New Orleans until 2024, he was with them for seven years prior as an analytics consultant and also was a draft analyst with the Miami Heat in 2016-17.
With the Aerospace Corporation, Ramadas worked with U.S. Space Force and NASA as a rocket guidance, navigation, control, and mission design engineer. He is a native of Cupertino, CA and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in astronautical engineering from the University of Southern California.
Rob Pelinka explains what he wants in Lakers assistant GMs
Prior to making this hire, Pelinka explained exactly what he was looking for in the Lakers’ two assistant general managers and how they will differ from each other.
“The two biggest positions that I mentioned is we will hire two assistant general managers, that’s the plan. One of those general managers would be sort of over player, draft and evaluation processes. That’s pro scouting, draft scouting, player development. The other assistant GM will be more on the strategy side, with the cap, analytics and data,” Pelinka said.
“Again, not that we’ve had holes in these places, we’ve got a great team of people that work incredibly hard. It’s just we want to add more to that for both those assistant GM positions. We have started a wide search and have begun interviews but haven’t hired out either of those.”
Considering Ramadas is on the strategy and analytics side, the other assistant general manager will be more involved with player and draft evaluations.

Luka Doncic Believes Lakers Were Championship Contenders Before Late-Season Injuries
📄 正文
Luka Doncic was piecing together an MVP-caliber season for the Los Angeles Lakers when he unfortunately suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain at the end of the regular season. There was cautious optimism that maybe if the Lakers made it far enough, he could return, but it did not materialize.
While the Oklahoma City Thunder probably would have defeated the Lakers even with Doncic, him missing that series is certainly a swing factor. Seeing how L.A. played in March, who knows what would have happened, as the Lakers star thought they could contend for a championship.
“Honestly, I think this season obviously didn’t end how we wanted, but I feel like the last push we made at the end of the regular season, we thought we could compete for a championship,” Doncic said after the Lakers were eliminated by the Thunder. “I thought we had a great team, we had great chemistry. Playing with AR and ‘Bron was an unbelievable experience. They’re two great players and it was really fun to share a court with them.”
Following a 15-2 record in the month of March, the vibes clearly shifting and everyone believed in the way they were playing. Doncic reminisced and spoke to how amazing of a run it was for the Lakers.
“It was pretty amazing,” he continued. “I think the feeling in the locker room was very good. Every time we stepped on the court, everybody was fighting. And most importantly, everybody was having fun. I think the run we made was pretty special. Obviously for me and AR, got injured at the worst moment. That was a little bit of bad luck.”
The Slovenian guard was a huge reason behind that winning month, averaging 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.3 steals on 49.2% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range. It felt like he was heating up at the right time before the playoffs and unfortunately suffered his hamstring injury.
As the Lakers look to make tweaks for next season, hopefully it is a more balanced roster to alleviate a bit of the offensive responsibility for Doncic. While his stats are nothing short of remarkable, preserving his production and health for the postseason should be the most important thing.
There is a blueprint to winning with Doncic, which was shown in the 2023-24 season when he made it to the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks. Hopefully, general manager Rob Pelinka can piece together a roster to better suit his franchise star and prevent workload injuries.
Luka Doncic finished fourth in 2025-26 NBA MVP voting
The Lakers pushed a social media campaign for Doncic to win MVP, but it was a tall mountain to climb, especially once he got injured. While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the award, it felt like voters were not sold on Doncic’s season, resulting in him finishing fourth in MVP voting.

Lakers News: Richard Hamilton Opens Up About Friendship With Kobe Bryant
📄 正文
There are a lot of names that are brought up when discussing the greatest rivals of Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant. But one who isn’t mentioned nearly enough is former All-Star guard Richard Hamilton, who spent the majority of his 14-year NBA career with the Detroit Pistons.
Bryant and Hamilton were actually part of the same high school basketball class and grew up together just outside of Philadelphia. And during those years, the two developed a long-term friendship that lasted all the way up until Kobe’s untimely passing.
Hamilton recently opened up about his friendship with Bryant, noting that the two had many conversations growing up and how the Pistons’ victory over the Lakers in the 2004 NBA Finals was a sweet bit of revenge from losing to Kobe in high school, via NBC Sports Philadelphia:
“Being two kids from small towns outside of Philadelphia, we still had to go to Philadelphia to get our respect. Respect wasn’t given to us and that happens especially when you’re not city kids. So we had a lot of internal conversations about how to make it and how we gotta be even tougher because going into the city, kids just thought that we wasn’t one of them. So we gotta come out and be that much better and we gotta compete at a high level. So for him to have success at Lower Merion, they beat us in the district championship which I was very upset about and I wish I could have that moment back, but aye, it is what it is. But to be roommates during AAU events, to have them conversations on what it’s gonna be like if we both make it to the pros. Playing in the McDonald’s All-American Game together and competing against all the great talent. Him going straight from high school and me going to college for three years. And my first phone call was to Kobe about what are the expectations that I’m gonna have when coming to the NBA. So them conversations are conversations that I hold close to my heart. And to your point, to be able to play in the NBA Championship against each other, and get my get back at that game, that’s something that is super special for myself. But that’s my brother, I love him to death. But to be able to share them type of moments, from a 16-year old kid all the way to both of us being NBA Champions, that don’t happen. It just doesn’t happen and it’s something special that I keep close to my heart.”
It is always the things behind the scenes, that most fans don’t see, that really forge these types of friendships. As Hamilton said both he and Bryant were kids with basketball dreams who had to earn their respect in Philly and that bonded them together for many years.
Even though they went through many battles on the court, that connection off of it lasted a lifetime and those memories Hamilton has of the Lakers legend will never go away.

This Day In Lakers History: Magic Johnson Records Triple-Double In Western Conference Finals-Clinching Win Over Suns
📄 正文
On May 25, 1984, the Los Angeles Lakers traveled to Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum for a potential elimination game against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals. The Lakers held a 3-2 lead and looked to finish off their rival on the road.
It was a tightly-contested first quarter of play, as both teams nearly matched each other shot-for-shot. Nevertheless, the Lakers carried a one-point lead into the second quarter. Phoenix mounted a run, however, and got the best of Los Angeles’ bench corps.
The Suns outscored the Lakers by eight and entered halftime with a seven-point advantage. Facing adversity, the Lakers quickly answered back in the third and managed to cut the deficit to one with just 12 minutes left of regulation.
While Phoenix put forth their best effort, it was Los Angeles to come out on top by a final score of 99-97 — and subsequently advancing to the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year.
Magic Johnson contributed one of his best performances of the season in the form of a triple-double. In 43 minutes, he tallied 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting with 13 assists and 11 rebounds.
James Worthy led the Lakers with 22 points while Michael Cooper, despite shooting only 2-of-11 from the field, filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine boards while Byron Scott added scoring depth off the bench with 13 points as well.
For the Suns, Larry Nance saw the most time on the court with 42 minutes. He contributed 11 points with 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocks to boot.
Walter Davis (26) and Maurice Lucas (21) both exceeded the 20-point threshold, with the latter collecting a game-high 13 boards, but it was to no avail as the Lakers’ top-10 defensive unit prevailed.

Lakers Free Agency Rumors: Robert Williams III Viewed As Potential Target
📄 正文
One position the Los Angeles Lakers will presumably be targeting this offseason is the center spot. In particular, the team will be looking to add a rim-running big man that fits well next to Luka Doncic, who has thrived with those types of centers in the past.
And with free agency approaching soon one name that has reportedly emerged as a real target for the Lakers is Robert Williams III, who has spent the last three years with the Portland Trail Blazers:
“The one name that basically picked up the most buzz, a lot of teams in Chicago last week, was Robert Williams. That’s the name,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently reported.
“You have to be cautious with that because of the games and availability, minutes. That’s the one guy who, I don’t want to say neutralized Victor (Wembanyama), but he guarded him probably one of the best in the playoffs in the first round. That would be the guy.
“He’s probably one of the top center unrestricted free agents out there and I think he gives you that shot blocker, rim protector, that guy that can be a lob threat for Luka. Now the question is what’s the cost? Is it $12-13 million? I think that’s kind of where his range is, but there will be other teams that also see that.”
Williams certainly fits the mold of being a lob threat on offense and rim protector on defense. When he has been healthy he has proven to be an effective player and he has plenty of postseason experience as well after spending the first five years of his career with the Boston Celtics.
But health and availability has been the issue for Williams throughout his career. He has played in just 85 games over the last three seasons in Portland and has never played more than 61 games in one year. Williams has had multiple knee surgeries throughout his career and lower body injuries are always even more of a concern for bigs.
That being said, Williams is coming off his best and healthiest season in years and if he can be brought in on a reasonable deal, he is exactly the type of big man that would be perfect playing next to Doncic.
Lakers reportedly hire Rohan Ramadas as assistant general manager
The Lakers are focused on building out their front office staff this offseason including hiring two assistant general managers and the franchise has reportedly found their first one in Rohan Ramadas, formerly of the New Orleans Pelicans, whose focus will be on the strategy, data and analytics side of things.

New Lakers Assistant GM Rohan Ramadas Described As ‘Literal Rocket Scientist’
📄 正文
One of the main focuses for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason is building out their front office staff. Rob Pelinka said the team planned on hiring two assistant general managers this offseason and the franchise has already landed on one, reportedly hiring former New Orleans Pelicans vice president of strategy and operations Rohan Ramadas.
Ramadas’ focus will be in that same area for the Lakers in terms of strategy, salary cap, and analytics and he is certainly qualified for the role with one person calling him a literal rocket scientist, via Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin of ESPN:
“He’s a literal rocket scientist,” a Pelicans source told ESPN.
While working for the Pelicans, Ramadas implemented AI and coded models to aid the front office, the source told ESPN.
This isn’t just hyperbole coming from the source as, after graduating from the Univeristy of Southern California, Ramadas spent more than a decade working with the Aerospace Corporation before joining the Pelicans. Now, he comes to the Lakers where he will play a similar role as he did in New Orleans, helping the front office and opening their eyes to different things via his different models that he will implement.
It is well known that the Lakers had a bit of a bare bones front office staff, especially when it came to the analytics department. And that is one of the areas where Mark Walter taking over as owner will benefit this franchise as they will now be able to build full departments in different areas throughout the organization that will greatly benefit everyone from the players to the coaching staff and beyond.
The Lakers will still be hiring one more assistant general manager who will be focused more on the scouting and development side of things and with that in place the Lakers front office will be completely equipped to utilize the resources available to them under the ownership of Walter. And that will only make this franchise that much better from top to bottom.
Luka Doncic believes Lakers were championship contenders before injuries
Once all of the pieces in the front office come together it will allow for them to properly build a roster around superstar Luka Doncic that can compete for a championship. And Doncic himself doesn’t believe they were far off as he felt this season’s squad were championship contenders during their late-season stretch before being hit with injuries that marred the end of the year.

Cost For Lakers To Sign Potential Free Agent Target Jalen Duren May Have Increased
📄 正文
The center position is one of need for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason and when it comes to free agency, the top name available is Jalen Duren of the Detroit Pistons. At just 22 years old, Duren is one of the best young bigs in the league, and now he could be in line for an even bigger payday this summer.
Duren was named to the All-NBA Third Team and with that accomplishment, he is now eligible for an even larger contract in free agency worth up to 30% of the salary cap, via Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports:
A few minutes ago, Jalen Duren landed on the All-NBA third team making him eligible for an additional $37 million on his next contract this summer, adding some intrigue to his pending free agency: https://t.co/2sfwJrwIcw
— Alex Schiffer (@Alex__Schiffer) May 24, 2026
Duren is a restricted free agent, so the Pistons can match any contract he receives from another team, but they can also offer him more than anyone else. With that All-NBA selection, Duren can now receive a five-year deal from the Pistons for $287 million, starting at $49.5 million next year. The most the Lakers or anyone else could offer the big man is a four-year deal worth $177.4 million, which would start at $42.25 million next season.
The question now is whether Duren will command that much after an extremely disappointing playoff run for the Pistons. He was more than deserving of his All-NBA selection after averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 65% from the field during the regular season. But those numbers plummeted to just 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds on 51.4% from the field in the postseason and he often saw himself on the bench in the final minutes of games.
The Lakers are one of the few teams who have the salary cap space to offer Duren such a contract, and he is the type of big man that would fit well next to Luka Doncic. But the front office will need to decide whether he is worth that kind of money and even still, the Pistons could match the deal. Regardless, Duren’s potential price tag has gone up and that could affect whether the Lakers really target him this summer.
Robert Williams III viewed as potential Lakers free agency target
