The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to big man Duke Brennan ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft. Brennan reportedly will have an official workout with the Lakers on Tuesday, putting him on the radar as a potential option for Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly bolstering their front office by hiring Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under Rob Pelinka. “The Los Angeles Lakers made their first significant move of the offseason by hiring Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under president and GM Rob Pelinka, sources told ESPN on Monday,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Shams Charania wrote. Ramadas has a very impressive background, as he spent the past decade or so working in some capacity for the New Orleans Pelicans, including two years in a full-time role with the franchise. The new Lakers front office member was most recently the vice president of strategy and operations with New Orleans. A Pelicans source offered ESPN a comment on Ramadas. “He’s a literal rocket scientist,” the source said. That comment doesn’t appear to be hyperbole, either. Ramadas has worked both in the NBA and aerospace. According to the Pelicans, the executive spent 12 years “supporting the Aerospace Corporation, U.S. Space Force, and NASA as a rocket guidance, navigation, control, and mission design engineer.” So, the Lakers are clearly bringing in a very gifted individual to help Pelinka and the franchise. “While working for the Pelicans, Ramadas implemented AI and coded models to aid the front office, the source told ESPN,” McMenamin and Charania wrote. Since Mark Walter took over as majority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, the organization has expanded in different areas. One thing Rob Pelinka made clear after the team was eliminated from the playoffs was that the Lakers would continue to add to their front office, particularly adding two assistant general managers to work under him. The Lakers have interviewed candidates to bolster their front office. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 25, 2026 Ramadas began working full-time with the Pelicans in 2024, first under the title of senior director of analytics and innovation before switching to vice president of basketball operations and strategy in 2025. Before working with the Pelicans, Ramadas spent 12 years working for the Aerospace Corporation in the engineering space. While he didn’t start full-time with New Orleans until 2024, he was with them for seven years prior as an analytics consultant and also was a draft analyst with the Miami Heat in 2016-17. With the Aerospace Corporation, Ramadas worked with U.S. Space Force and NASA as a rocket guidance, navigation, control, and mission design engineer. He is a native of Cupertino, CA and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in astronautical engineering from the University of Southern California. Rob Pelinka explains what he wants in Lakers assistant GMs Prior to making this hire, Pelinka explained exactly what he was looking for in the Lakers’ two assistant general managers and how they will differ from each other. “The two biggest positions that I mentioned is we will hire two assistant general managers, that’s the plan. One of those general managers would be sort of over player, draft and evaluation processes. That’s pro scouting, draft scouting, player development. The other assistant GM will be more on the strategy side, with the cap, analytics and data,” Pelinka said. “Again, not that we’ve had holes in these places, we’ve got a great team of people that work incredibly hard. Luka Doncic was piecing together an MVP-caliber season for the Los Angeles Lakers when he unfortunately suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain at the end of the regular season. There was cautious optimism that maybe if the Lakers made it far enough, he could return, but it did not materialize. While the Oklahoma City Thunder probably would have defeated the Lakers even with Doncic, him missing that series is certainly a swing factor. Seeing how L.A. played in March, who knows what would have happened, as the Lakers star thought they could contend for a championship. “Honestly, I think this season obviously didn’t end how we wanted, but I feel like the last push we made at the end of the regular season, we thought we could compete for a championship,” Doncic said after the Lakers were eliminated by the Thunder. “I thought we had a great team, we had great chemistry. Playing with AR and ‘Bron was an unbelievable experience. They’re two great players and it was really fun to share a court with them.” Following a 15-2 record in the month of March, the vibes clearly shifting and everyone believed in the way they were playing. Doncic reminisced and spoke to how amazing of a run it was for the Lakers. “It was pretty amazing,” he continued. “I think the feeling in the locker room was very good. Every time we stepped on the court, everybody was fighting. And most importantly, everybody was having fun. I think the run we made was pretty special. Obviously for me and AR, got injured at the worst moment. That was a little bit of bad luck.” The Slovenian guard was a huge reason behind that winning month, averaging 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.3 steals on 49.2% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range. It felt like he was heating up at the right time before the playoffs and unfortunately suffered his hamstring injury. As the Lakers look to make tweaks for next season, hopefully it is a more balanced roster to alleviate a bit of the offensive responsibility for Doncic. While his stats are nothing short of remarkable, preserving his production and health for the postseason should be the most important thing. There are a lot of names that are brought up when discussing the greatest rivals of Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant. But one who isn’t mentioned nearly enough is former All-Star guard Richard Hamilton, who spent the majority of his 14-year NBA career with the Detroit Pistons. Bryant and Hamilton were actually part of the same high school basketball class and grew up together just outside of Philadelphia. On May 25, 1984, the Los Angeles Lakers traveled to Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum for a potential elimination game against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals. The Lakers held a 3-2 lead and looked to finish off their rival on the road. It was a tightly-contested first quarter of play, as both teams nearly matched each other shot-for-shot. Nevertheless, the Lakers carried a one-point lead into the second quarter. Phoenix mounted a run, however, and got the best of Los Angeles’ bench corps. The Suns outscored the Lakers by eight and entered halftime with a seven-point advantage. Facing adversity, the Lakers quickly answered back in the third and managed to cut the deficit to one with just 12 minutes left of regulation. While Phoenix put forth their best effort, it was Los Angeles to come out on top by a final score of 99-97 — and subsequently advancing to the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year. Magic Johnson contributed one of his best performances of the season in the form of a triple-double. In 43 minutes, he tallied 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting with 13 assists and 11 rebounds. One position the Los Angeles Lakers will presumably be targeting this offseason is the center spot. In particular, the team will be looking to add a rim-running big man that fits well next to Luka Doncic, who has thrived with those types of centers in the past. And with free agency approaching soon one name that has reportedly emerged as a real target for the Lakers is Robert Williams III, who has spent the last three years with the Portland Trail Blazers: “The one name that basically picked up the most buzz, a lot of teams in Chicago last week, was Robert Williams. That’s the name,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently reported. “You have to be cautious with that because of the games and availability, minutes. That’s the one guy who, I don’t want to say neutralized Victor (Wembanyama), but he guarded him probably one of the best in the playoffs in the first round. That would be the guy. “He’s probably one of the top center unrestricted free agents out there and I think he gives you that shot blocker, rim protector, that guy that can be a lob threat for Luka. Now the question is what’s the cost? Is it $12-13 million? I think that’s kind of where his range is, but there will be other teams that also see that.” Williams certainly fits the mold of being a lob threat on offense and rim protector on defense. When he has been healthy he has proven to be an effective player and he has plenty of postseason experience as well after spending the first five years of his career with the Boston Celtics. But health and availability has been the issue for Williams throughout his career. He has played in just 85 games over the last three seasons in Portland and has never played more than 61 games in one year. Williams has had multiple knee surgeries throughout his career and lower body injuries are always even more of a concern for bigs. That being said, Williams is coming off his best and healthiest season in years and if he can be brought in on a reasonable deal, he is exactly the type of big man that would be perfect playing next to Doncic. This isn’t just hyperbole coming from the source as, after graduating from the Univeristy of Southern California, Ramadas spent more than a decade working with the Aerospace Corporation before joining the Pelicans. Now, he comes to the Lakers where he will play a similar role as he did in New Orleans, helping the front office and opening their eyes to different things via his different models that he will implement. It is well known that the Lakers had a bit of a bare bones front office staff, especially when it came to the analytics department. And that is one of the areas where Mark Walter taking over as owner will benefit this franchise as they will now be able to build full departments in different areas throughout the organization that will greatly benefit everyone from the players to the coaching staff and beyond. The Lakers will still be hiring one more assistant general manager who will be focused more on the scouting and development side of things and with that in place the Lakers front office will be completely equipped to utilize the resources available to them under the ownership of Walter. And that will only make this franchise that much better from top to bottom. The center position is one of need for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason and when it comes to free agency, the top name available is Jalen Duren of the Detroit Pistons. At just 22 years old, Duren is one of the best young bigs in the league, and now he could be in line for an even bigger payday this summer. The question now is whether Duren will command that much after an extremely disappointing playoff run for the Pistons.
